Ubuntu in Every Learner

If you’re tired of watching your child lose confidence or fall out of love with learning, you’re not alone.

NestED Rooted Scholars is here to close those gaps through a supportive, structured environment where scholars regain their joy for discovery. Grounded in the spirit of Ubuntu and Africentric pedagogy, we celebrate identity and cultural heritage as fundamental to the learning journey.

Our small, intimate cohorts ensure every child is truly seen and empowered. We move beyond traditional instruction to nurture confident, capable scholars through meaningful, identity-affirming experiences. By partnering with families, we raise lifelong readers and thinkers who understand that their unique voices and contributions are vital to our community.

Start by exploring our Educational Services and Resources below.

Mission & Philosophy

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower scholars through culturally responsive educational practices that honor their unique identities and potential. We partner with families and educators to create inclusive, affirming spaces where African ways of knowing are celebrated and every scholar thrives.

Our Philosophy

Guided by the spirit of Ubuntu—“I am because we are”—our philosophy centers on community, connection, and restorative growth. We believe that education must be meaningful and identity-affirming, fostering a lifelong love for learning and a deep sense of belonging.

Nguzo Saba in Our Work

At E.B. Chez Nous, the seven principles of Nguzo Saba form the foundation of our community. These values guide how we relate to one another, honoring the connection between K–5 scholars, their families, and their heritage.
Umoja (Unity)
We foster a spirit of togetherness where families and scholars feel fundamentally connected. Within this circle of support, we ensure that every child experiences a deep sense of belonging and kinship.

Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
We encourage scholars to embrace their cultural identity and speak their own truths. By nurturing their inner voice, we help them walk with confidence and pride in who they are.

Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility)
We view the growth of our children as a shared commitment. By standing together with families, we ensure that every scholar’s journey is supported by the strength of the collective.

Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
We value the sharing of social and communal wealth. We believe in uplifting one another, ensuring that every family has the community backing needed for their child to flourish.

Nia (Purpose)
We help scholars see themselves as vital contributors to their community’s future. Every interaction is rooted in the belief that their lives and their growth have profound meaning.

Kuumba (Creativity)
We celebrate the unique ways our scholars express their cultural heritage. We make space for their imaginations to shine, honoring the beauty they bring into our shared world.

Imani (Faith)
We maintain an unwavering belief in the natural brilliance of our children. This deep-seated trust empowers families and scholars to keep moving forward with hope and confidence.

By centering these values, E.B. Chez Nous nurtures culturally grounded and community-minded scholars who understand their place within the circle of Ubuntu.

Curriculum & Learning Approach

EBCN offers an intentionally small, scholar-centred environment tailored for children who thrive with individualized instruction and small-group engagement. Providing a meaningful alternative to traditional classrooms, our space is designed to be highly responsive to every learner's needs.

Our curriculum and learning experiences draw from a blend of Africentric and Montessori-inspired approaches, integrating provincial curriculum expectations while centering on each scholar’s unique strengths, interests, and developmental stage.
Learning here transcends traditional instruction. Through hands-on, multi-dimensional experiences, scholars explore concepts using materials, movement, and creative problem-solving. This interactive model ensures they have diverse ways to internalize and demonstrate their knowledge.

We develop learning plans in close partnership with families, adapting our guidance as scholars grow. Our focus extends beyond academic milestones to cultivate the ability to apply and transfer skills across all areas of life.

This intimate setting fosters deep relationships and purposeful learning. By prioritizing observation and time over rigid programming, we empower scholars to engage deeply with their education in a way that is affirming, personal, and effective.
